Master Planning Process

Master planning is a comprehensive planning process that examines the needs and growth of the university, including academic programs, student life, comprehensive transportation solutions, sustainability and energy use, athletics and recreation, outdoor and green space, deferred maintenance, historic preservation, and financial sustainability. The outcome of the process will be a plan that provides the physical spaces to support the future of the university and maintain Georgetown’s competitiveness. Master planning is a collaborative process that requires input from university leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni, neighbors, and city leaders.

To assist in the planning process, Georgetown contracted with Forest City Washington and Dumont & Janks, expert consultants in urban development and campus planning. Forest City and Dumont & Janks work closely with the Office of Planning and Facilities Management to develop planning principles, collect data, engage stakeholders, and develop concepts for the master plan. As the university’s planning team develops concepts for the master plan, they work closely with Planning and Facilities Management to regularly engage university leaders, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and guide the development of the plan. The university also engages the community on issues of master planning through the Georgetown Community Partnership.

2018 Campus Plan

The university’s master plan will form the basis for the university’s 2018 Campus Plan. Over the last two years, the university and its consultants have been collecting data, assessing spaces, engaging with stakeholders, and understanding the needs for academic growth and student life. From that work, the university has developed concepts, consistent with the planning principles, that provide a plan for future growth.
