Opportunities for Growth
Georgetown Downtown is an example of the growth strategies the University has and will pursue. Georgetown University Law Center moved to its current home at 600 New Jersey Avenue NW in 1971. Its steady expansion in the heart of the city is a model for the impact Georgetown can have in transforming a neighborhood over a number of years.
In the fall of 2013, Georgetown relocated the School of Continuing Studies (SCS) to a new campus at 640 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. The move downtown allows SCS to contribute to the development of an emerging downtown neighborhood, expanding Georgetown’s presence downtown and building on the pioneering development begun by the Georgetown University Law Center. The new Georgetown Downtown campus, located in the midst of the industries it serves and easily accessed by Metro and other public transportation, makes accessible high quality education programs that are in high demand.
To continue building on the foundation of the Law Center and the new SCS location, Georgetown is looking for opportunities to grow and develop in other parts of the District of Columbia and the surrounding metropolitan area. It is essential that the university position itself to carefully explore every potential growth opportunity as we consider our future needs and examine how our growth is aligned with the goals of the city. Georgetown’s goal is to understand more about opportunities as they become available, even as we clarify the activities we might undertake in the future.
